Listicle marketing: get your product into “best of” lists

“Top 10” roundups, comparisons and alternatives pages. These are what ChatGPT and Google retell when a buyer is choosing a vendor.

Where buyers choose now

AI builds its answer from other people’s roundups

When a buyer asks “which tool should I pick”, AI doesn’t go to your website. It retells “top 10” articles and comparisons. If you’re not in those articles, you’re not in the answer.

The buying path

Five searches between “I have a problem” and “I’m buying”

Roundups and comparisons cover the three middle steps. This is where buyers narrow the choice down to two or three options, and where brands lose them most often.

What we do

Three tracks of work

Third-party roundups

We get you into “best of” articles in your category

We find the roundups buyers see and AI cites, and pitch your product to the authors with the facts they need.

  • A list of roundups for your queries and markets
  • Pitches to authors and editors with product data
  • Updates to old roundups that leave you out

Comparisons

“X vs Y” and “alternatives” pages on your site

The buyer is already choosing between you and a competitor. We give them an honest comparison they will find in search and AI can quote.

  • Comparisons with your 3-5 main competitors
  • “[Competitor] alternatives” pages
  • Pricing and feature tables instead of sales copy

Upkeep

We keep the lists fresh

Roundups go stale every year, and AI prefers current ones. We make sure you stay in the new versions and the facts about you are right.

  • Monitoring roundups and your spots in them
  • Updating facts, prices and screenshots
  • New roundups that appear in your niche

What a comparison people trust looks like

A “you vs competitor” page only works if it’s honest. Here’s what we build it from.

How it’s different

Link building, buying spots or working with roundups

Link building and buying spots solve different problems. Here’s how they differ from editorial work with roundups.

Goal Link buildingBuying spots in roundupsRoundups with Buylink

Shows up in AI answers Indirectly, through site authorityIf AI cites that siteWe pick roundups that AI cites

We do link building too, but it’s a separate service with a different goal: lifting your site’s rankings.

To be clear

What we don’t do

Roundups shape buying decisions, so there is no room to mislead readers or search engines here.

  • We don’t buy spots in roundups without an “ad” or “sponsored” label
  • We don’t create fake “independent” rankings
  • We don’t write comparisons that make a competitor look worse than it is
  • We don’t promise first place in someone else’s article: the author decides

What we can promise

Consistent work with authors and editors, honest comparisons on your site and a transparent report on where you appeared and why.

FAQ

Best-of lists and comparisons FAQ

What it is and why

01Why do “best of” lists matter so much?

They are the last stage of choosing: the buyer already understands the problem and is looking for a shortlist. These articles rank high in search and are cited by AI assistants more than anything else. According to Ahrefs, they account for 43.8% of links in ChatGPT answers.

02How is this different from link building?

Link building earns links to lift your site’s rankings. Here the goal is different: to have your product named in the articles people read while choosing, and in AI answers. There may or may not be a link.

03Why build comparisons on our own site if AI prefers third-party ones?

Third-party roundups give you reach, while your own comparisons cover the specific “you vs competitor” query. Whoever types it is close to buying, and it is better if they read an honest comparison on your site than on your competitor’s.

Format

04Do you buy spots in roundups?

If a site sells placements, they must be labeled as advertising or sponsorship. We don’t buy hidden paid spots: that breaks search engine rules and advertising laws in the US and EU. The core of the work is editorial outreach.

05How long does it take to get into roundups?

It depends on the niche and the publications. The author decides on every spot, so our report shows every attempt, not only the successful ones.

06Where do we start?

With a search presence audit or a short check: we will show which roundups your buyers see and which of them leave you out.

Results and risks

07What is listicle marketing?

It’s the work around list articles: “10 best CRMs”, “Salesforce alternatives”, “X vs Y”. The goal is for your product to be included in these articles and described accurately, because buyers read them before purchasing and AI assistants rely on them.

08How do you choose which lists to go after?

We look at which articles rank at the top of Google for buying-decision queries in your markets and which of them ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google’s AI answers cite. We start with the ones both people and AI see.

09Do you guarantee a spot in a list?

No, and that’s the honest answer: the author decides. We’re accountable for the work: the list of roundups, materials for authors, the pitches and a report on every attempt. If someone guarantees placements, it’s most likely a hidden paid deal.

10What if a roundup has outdated or wrong information about us?

We send the author up-to-date facts with links to sources and ask them to update the article. It’s one of the fastest wins: authors care about accuracy too.

11Does this work if our team is based outside the US or EU?

Yes, as long as the product genuinely serves that market: a site in the market’s language, pricing, support and customers. List authors care about the product and the facts, not where the team sits.
